PM Modi holds high-level review meet amid uptick in Covid-19 cases

Amidst the rising number of Covid-19 cases in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday held a high-level meeting to review the situation and public health preparedness, according to officials.

The death toll climbed to 5,30,813 with five deaths reported in the past 24 hours. The deaths were reported from Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, and Maharashtra while one fatality was reconciled by Kerala, the data updated by the Union Health Ministry showed.


Meanwhile, the Kerala government has sounded alert to all districts, owing to a slight increase in the number of Covid-19 cases, as the state reported 172 cases on Tuesday. Health Minister Veena George said that Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam districts have more cases. ”

“There are a total of 1,026 active cases of COVID-19 and 111 people are under treatment in hospitals. All districts have been alerted,” the minister said.
